A New Chapter for the Mum and Baby Space at Stockwell
It’s been a busy and brilliant week as we prepared the mum and baby space at Stockwell for its next chapter. What started as a simple refresh quickly turned into a wonderful example of what can happen when volunteers, supporters and the community come together with a shared goal: creating a warm, welcoming place for mums and their babies.
Before our volunteers from Marymount International School London arrived with their generous donations of books, toys and clothes, the team rolled up their sleeves and got to work transforming the space. There was a real sense of excitement in the air as everyone pitched in to prepare the room and make sure it would be ready for the families who will soon use it.
From painting walls and building flat-pack furniture to sorting through supplies and giving everything a thorough clean, the effort from volunteers was incredible. Of course, no volunteer day would be complete without plenty of tea breaks along the way — and a lot of laughter too. The teamwork, energy and willingness to help meant that by the end of the day the space looked completely different.
What was once a plain room has been transformed into a bright, cheerful environment designed with mums and babies in mind. It now feels calm, welcoming and full of life — somewhere parents can feel comfortable spending time, meeting others and accessing support during those important early months.
A special thank you goes to our designer Viktoryia, whose creative vision helped shape the transformation. Thoughtful design choices, colours and layout have made the room not only practical but genuinely uplifting for families who walk through the door.
We’re also incredibly grateful to the students from Marymount International School London, who brought so much enthusiasm and generosity with them. Their donations of books, toys and clothes will go directly to the families who need them most, and their hands-on help made a huge difference on the day.
Spaces like this matter. For many mums, especially in the early days of parenthood, having somewhere safe and welcoming to come with their baby can make a real difference. It’s a place to connect with others, find support, and take a moment to breathe during what can be an intense and emotional time.
Thanks to the incredible effort of volunteers, supporters and partners, this mum and baby space is ready to do exactly that. It’s more than just a room — it’s a community space built with care, generosity and collaboration.
And as the before-and-after photos show, the transformation really is remarkable.
