This World Health Day, we would like to share the remarkable achievements of our Health and Wellbeing team this last year. Their dedication to improving the lives of our residents has resulted in significant positive changes. Demonstrating the power of holistic support in addressing homelessness.
Our team’s focus on holistic well-being has produced impressive results. By addressing various aspects of health, including exercise, nutrition, and sleep, we’ve seen a notable improvement in our residents’ physical health. An encouraging 163 residents reported feeling more physically healthy, a testament to the effectiveness of our comprehensive approach.
The past year has been bustling with activity, with 210 residents participating in a wide range of health-focused events. Including group sessions such as walks in local parks, sports activities like badminton and tennis, stretching and yoga sessions. We have also continued our collaboration with Croydon BME Forum. Providing health checks and advice on diabetes, BMI, and blood pressure.
Accessibility has been a key focus, with 109 health-focused drop-in sessions held throughout the year. These sessions, available both in-person and virtually, have provided immediate support to residents in need and engaged those who might be hesitant about regular sessions.
We’ve facilitated 69 workshops, attracting 386 attendees. These workshops covered a diverse range of topics and activities, including art for wellbeing, music production at Pirate Music Studios, haircuts provided by Haircuts 4 Homeless and volunteers, aromatherapy sessions, confidence-boosting and job preparation workshops, seasonal craft workshops and health check-ups.
Our commitment to personalised support is evident in the 433 one-to-one interventions conducted over the year. By offering these sessions in person, via phone, and through video calls, we’ve been able to reach more residents. Providing flexible, effective therapeutic support.
As we reflect on this year’s achievements, we’re inspired by the resilience and progress of our residents. The success of our Health and Wellbeing programme highlights the importance of comprehensive, accessible support in addressing homelessness.
We’re grateful for the continued support of our community, partners, and volunteers who make this work possible. Together, we’re not just providing somewhere to stay – we’re building healthier, more empowered lives.
