Career change programme

We have recently inducted a new cohort of support workers to our career change programme. The programme offers a practical route for people from a diverse background of industries to start a career in the homelessness sector. With four successful programmes to date, we have plenty of experience in supporting new people into employment with us.

The programme begins with a four-week intensive training period. This training covers both on-the-job and off-the-job components, focusing on developing skills specific to our operations as well as enhancing transferable skills, values, and behaviours. Topics covered include: our approach to support, managing challenging behaviour, mental health awareness and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Launched in 2020 in response to the pandemic’s economic impact on industries such as hospitality and retail, the programme recognises the compatibility of skills acquired in these sectors with the demands of the homelessness sector. Our Career Change programme colleagues come to us with a variety of different personal experiences and jobs including ski instructors, teachers, cabin crew and in the TV production and football industries, to name a few.

We caught up with our four new career changers to find out how they are settling in and what drew them to working at Evolve. You can watch our interview with them in the video below. We look forward to watching them settle into their new roles, providing support to our customers.
