Evolve announces new emergency shelter in Croydon

Evolve Housing + Support has unveiled its Somewhere Safe to Stay Hub today (30.01.20), providing emergency accommodation for the rising number of people experiencing homelessness in Croydon.

The latest Evolve service offers 78 hours of emergency accommodation for people from Croydon who are either, in immediate danger of sleeping rough or who are verified as sleeping rough.

Once referred to the hub people are immediately given a safe space to sleep. They are then assessed by an Evolve member of staff and supported to find a pathway into housing and away from rough sleeping.

The hub is open 24-hours a day, 365-days a year and was funded by Croydon Council following major financial backing from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Debra Ives, Director of Operations at Evolve says:

“We are delighted to deliver this service in Croydon which will enable us to help people at a moment of crisis and get them off the streets to somewhere safe. Becoming homeless is a traumatic experience. We want to be able to work quickly to provide a pathway away from rough sleeping that helps the individual.”
