Meet Ruban, who fundraised for us last year, raising nearly £600 by running in the Royal Parks half marathon in October.
“I had volunteered with Evolve before and was impressed with the work they carry out as a homelessness charity in London. When I decided to run for Evolve, one of the things that I enjoyed the most was reaching out to people that I hadn’t spoken to in a while through my JustGiving page, to ask them to support me. The response was incredibly encouraging.
However, I don’t believe I did enough training for the actual event! I go to the gym quite regularly but should have practiced running more. I should have also worked on my legs and done some yoga!
I would definitely advise other fundraisers who are considering running for a charity to follow the guidelines that are sent, and to build your leg muscles up and also to look into conditioning through yoga.
The support I received from the fundraising team throughout my training was amazing and they all showed up on the big day. Their cheering and encouragement during the Royal Parks half marathon was phenomenal. The weather was great and the run itself was painful- but fun!
I would definitely recommend running for Evolve if there are any other runners out there looking for a charity to fundraise for.”
