Bianca Miller-Cole inspires homeless people to become entrepreneurs

Bianca Miller-Cole, Ambassador for Evolve Housing + Support launched an entrepreneurship course on Tuesday 20 February 2017.  The aim of the course is to empower homeless people to create their own businesses and to equip them with the skills to become their own boss. The course was enabled through a grant from Hammerson PLC, administered through Centrale in Croydon. This funding be used to enable the Work + Learning team to deliver this eight week programme for homeless people who are interested in starting or resuming a business.

The course will last for eight weeks and each week will feature a guest speaker from local Croydon entrepenuers. Evolve residents (known as customers) will learn important business skills such as: branding, networking, social media, presentation skills and how to write a business plan.

Bianca Miller-Cole is lending her support to Evolve’s Work and Learning Service that helps homeless people achieve their goals and ambitions and get into education and employment. She launched the entrepreneurship course as the first guest speaker with a session on personal branding and networking. Bianca said: ‘‘As ambassador for Evolve, I was delighted to kick-start this Entrepreneurship Programme with a personal branding and networking for business workshop. I know from the questions and enthusiasm within the group that we are going to see some exciting business ideas come to fruition over the next 8 weeks.”

Jon Deakin, Central and Community Services Area Manager for Evolve said,

“Those who are experiencing homelessness have the same aspirations as the rest of us, but often lack the skills to realise them. Many of our customers have experienced discrimination in the workplace or have had to leave due to experiencing homelessness, yet they are highly creative and passionate about making a difference in the world. Our customers come to us from every background, yet share the same positive attitude to wanting to better themselves. They, alongside all of us, want to be inspired and to be able to show their creativity and drive to do well. Our program recognises this and works alongside them to provide a different way of thinking that inspires and challenges them to be who they want to be.”

Bianca is the founder of The Be Group, a hugely successful enterprise built on the premise that everyone should have access to services that advance their career development and build their personal brand and Bianca Miller London, which specialises in nude hosiery which suits up to 45 different skin tones. She is also the Co-Author of ‘Self-Made: the definitive guide to business startup success’ with her husband, Byron Cole. Bianca was also the runner-up in BBC television series, The Apprentice series 10.
