Helping homeless people achieve qualifications

Our Work + Learning service supports customers to achieve accredited qualifications.

When Veronica came to Wandle Valley Resource Centre (WVRC) in Merton earlier this year, she had not been able to work for an extended period due to depression following significant bereavements.

‘I was in a bad way before I came to Grenfell Housing and Training. I was in a lot of financial difficulty so when I was given the opportunity to participate in the courses, I jumped at the chance.’

Veronica completed a series of OCR Accredited IT skills, English and Maths qualifications. ‘The support I have received from staff has given me self-confidence. Becoming a Grenfell Learner has given me a whole new lease of life.’

After completing mock interviews to enhance her interview techniques, Veronica is now on a work placement as a receptionist at both WVRC and our Kingston Road office, which she is thoroughly enjoying.

‘I love the staff here. They are so friendly and patient which has helped me to learn. This work placement has enabled me to establish a routine, and has reminded me of the satisfaction of completing a full day’s work. I have made a lot of friends here and I feel positive about what the future may hold.’

Veronica won an award at this year’s customer conference, Evolve Fest, for her enthusiasm and hard work on all her qualifications.
