Our Interim Director of Business Development, Alice Hainsworth tells us what national Bi Visibility Day means to her
It was absolutely wonderful to be in a room with another 60 people who identify as Bi. For me (and many of the other participants) this was the first time I had been in the same room as so many other bi people.
I heard Stonewall articulating for the first time some of the challenges that bi people face in our society. First and foremost a lack of visibility in the workplace, the straight and gay community and in the media. Secondly, common misconceptions that bi people are confused, actually gay but in denial or that our sexuality changes depending on what relationship we are in, to name a few.
As a Bi Role Model, I committed to being more visible in my work and in my life as a bi person, in order to create a more inclusive society for everyone.
To me Bi Visibility Day is important because it means I can feel proud of who I am. It also reminds me how grateful I am that I work for an inclusive employer, like Evolve.
I hope that as a visible Bi Role Model I can help to contribute to a more inclusive environment for any fellow bi colleagues, customers and our supporters and stakeholders. Happy Bi Visibility Day!
